FUTURES COMMISSION

Last updated: 09-12-2025

HOW IT STARTED

  • The Future’s commission extends the work of the previous Youth Commission (2016 – 2025) with the acknowledgement that the organisation and the Commission’s purpose and outlook has changed fundamentally.
  • With the stepping down of Youth Commission President Anastasia Mashtakova (Russia); Active members of the Youth commission Mareike and Alex met in person in Chuncheon for the first time, despite working together for the past three years online.
  • Whilst co-facilitating Fishing Fresh and other networking events at the 2025 Congress in Chuncheon, discussions were being had as to how the Youth commission could move forward.
  • The Futures Commission acknowledges that the previous Youth commission was not made up of Youth members, but in fact members in their late 20s and 30s who are mid-career artists and professionals, but who continually felt that the labelling of the commission as “youth” had negative impacts on key projects and outcomes and lacked respect from other factions of the organisation

OUR VISION FOR THE COMMISSION

  • For true representation and inclusion of future generations, the commission believes that UNIMA needs to unite all generations to find solutions as it begins a process to transform itself.
  • The commission will seek to explore outreach options and inclusive pathways into UNIMA internationale
  • It will seek to highlight and facilitate events for professional learning and sharing professional practice
  • It will investigate the UNESCO Sustainability Goals and work towards systems and strategies for integration within the newly revised UNIMA structure
  • It will seek to link UNIMA International to its global membership by extending on initiatives started by the Youth Commission such as ‘How To UNIMA’
  • It will seek to invite any member of UNIMA interested to participate in developing future pathways and future proofing for the organisation
  • To be a think-tank, a place to question the organisation and a place to share innovative ideas.

OUR PROJECTS: HOW ITS GOING

  • As a new commission we are gathering members, seeking skill sets, interests, wants and wishes for agenda in 2026 – 2029
  • We are developing a monthly calendar of events for 2026
  • We invite you to be a part of these events which will begin in March through to November
  • These may include extensions to ‘Fishing Fresh’, Open Zoom Sessions, Sharing Forums, Networking and How To’s across and outside our organisation
