Brief history
UNIMA Estonia was founded in 1999. The leader organization is NUKU (?puppet? in Estonian). In March 2010, the Museum and the Centre for Puppet Arts was opened in Tallinn, uniting the puppet museum, puppetry research centre, puppet making workshops and the Estonian Puppet and Youth Theatre. Estonian theatres had no opportunity to exhibit puppets, but the present museum provides the chance to gather together and show all the preserved puppets which have performed on theatre stages for the last 60 years.
Important projects and achievements
Since 1969, Viljandi Puppet Theatre has organized the international festival called “Theatre In a Suitcase”, and since 2007 the Estonian Puppet and Youth Theatre has annually organized the ?Tallinn Treff Festival?, an interdisciplinary festival that celebrates all forms of the performing arts. The programme includes dance, drama, puppet theatre performances and music concerts that attract different kinds of artists and audiences to participate in one festival.
