The social dimensions of using puppets and animated objects

Friday 28, Saturday 29, Sunday 30 June 2024

Teatro Fonderia Leopolda – Follonica, Italy

Animated figures such as puppets, marionettes, and dolls are powerful communication tools capable of influencing and enriching community life. These artistic and communicative forms promote cultural, educational, and therapeutic values, while also facilitating social inclusion and integration. Animated figures can transcend linguistic and cultural barriers, allowing for the expression of ideas and emotions in an accessible and engaging manner.

It is within this context that the Symposium, the social dimensions of using puppets and animated objects, was born, an initiative promoted by UNIMA Italy. The project’s objective is to foster meetings and professional exchanges among those who use these expressive forms in various social contexts.

Previous editions, held in Porto Sant’Elpidio (I Teatri del Mondo – International Festival of Children’s Theatre) in 2022 and in Formia (Bertold Brecht Theatre and The Little Iqbal Masih Theatre) in 2023, attracted an extraordinary number of participants, including puppet theatre professionals, social workers, heads of inclusive and non-inclusive theatre companies, trainers, educators, pedagogues, teachers, and artists.

The new edition of the Symposium will be held in Follonica, at the Teatro Fonderia Leopolda, thanks to the collaboration of the Zaches Teatro Company, AdArte Spettacoli, and the Municipality of Follonica, from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 June. The program includes three intense days of experiential workshops, round tables on good professional practices, as well as meetings and dialogues with cultural and social actors from the host territory, such as the Lotus Association, the Multiverso Association, the Gattopicchio Company, and the Friends of Duccio Association.
