Players of the Night: On Contemporary Shadow Theatre with Fabrizio Montecchi
Puppet Saturdays Lecture Series
September 14, 14:00 CET
UNIMA Ukraine and UNIMA Sweden are excited to present the 5th Puppet Saturday Lecture in our series of digital events, curated and facilitated by UNIMA Nordic to foster cross-border collaboration and skill-sharing. Join us as we delve into the art of shadow puppetry with renowned expert Fabrizio Montecchi (Italy).
Shadow theatre has undergone a remarkable evolution over the past fifty years, and Fabrizio Montecchi will guide us through this transformative journey. Discover the new concepts and forms of shadow theatre that have emerged from this dynamic revolution. We will explore the transition from traditional to contemporary shadow theatre, examining both its physical and metaphysical aspects. This lecture will illuminate the fundamental principles of this profoundly theatrical language—an art that is both immaterial and concrete, yet brimming with expressive and communicative potential. Shadow theatre, with its primitive roots, remains strikingly relevant and capable of resonating with audiences today and into the future.
Fabrizio Montecchi is a distinguished director and set designer who has been instrumental in the development of contemporary shadow theatre through Teatro Gioco Vita from 1977 to 2023. With over sixty productions staged worldwide, he has been a passionate advocate for shadow theatre, dedicating his career since 1993 to training and sharing knowledge. His contributions include numerous books and articles on the subject.
Don’t miss this opportunity to gain insights from a master of the craft. The lecture will be held online on Saturday, September 14 at 14:00 CET.
