Join Irish UNIMA  online for a special screening featuring talented female directors in the world of puppetry. This event is a unique opportunity to support and appreciate the contributions of women in the arts. Don’t miss out on this exciting showcase of talent on International Women’s Day – 8th of March! For an inaugural year Irish UNIMA is highlighting directors from Europe and the Americas.

This Festival originated as an idea – a series of online meetings discussing what it means to be a female puppeteer. Despite varying challenges, artists discovered commonalities and a supportive community transcending borders. They aim to foster leadership and connections among these talented and inspiring women, who sometimes face challenges being heard or respected in their local artistic spaces.

Marking 100 years since the first female puppeteer created the first animated film, they hope to ensure women like Lotte Reiniger are not lost to history.

To celebrate World Puppetry Day (21st March) this year, puppeteers will meet on the East and West coasts of Ireland, as well as online.

This will be an excellent opportunity for all who share a love of puppetry to meet others of all different levels of experience, from novice to expert. Irish UNIMA members will share their lovely World Puppetry Day video, which was made about – The Climate, and participants will make their own recycled puppets.

You are welcome to join or watch from home. You can also bring along a puppet of your own for the afternoon to meet other puppeteers and their puppets.

If you are traveling and joining from around the world, Irish UNIMA welcomes you with open arms to their celebration of puppetry, and you do not have to pay for this event.
