UNIMA International would like to especially celebrate all women puppeteers on International Women’s Day 2025!
We are proud of the achievements of our women members and all puppetresses throughout the world who work so hard to create high quality, meaningful and boundary-breaking art. Women’s work is often, even today, hidden behind the image of men and yet there are countless women creating puppetry, whether through performance, making, directing, producing, curating, teaching, researching, making costumes, as choreographers, writers, policy makers and above all artists. Women puppeteers are speaking out about their experiences, enabling us to enter into beautiful and powerful words of image and movement. We are grateful for your contribution to the magnificent tapestry of creation that tells the stories of our existence. Let’s acknowledge this work and hope that women’s work as puppeteers will be recognised for its power and creativity. The history of puppet theatre is replete with their contributions. Some 80 have been recognized as UNIMA Members of Honour and at the Chuncheon Congress we will celebrate 11 of them.
Warm greetings and celebrations to you all, puppetresses of the world!
