“Dance and Peace in Sharing” – September 21, 2024
(DEADLINE FOR VIDEO or PHOTO SUBMISSIONS: February 29, 2024)

UNIMA, as a partner of UNESCO, encourages members to participate! On September 21, 2024, we will collectively celebrate the International Day of Peace and Non-Violence, both locally and virtually.
ABOUT THE PROJECT: A collective of official NGO partners of UNESCO and other civil society organizations, in collaboration with the International Association of Educators for Peace (AIEP) and based on a thematic proposal from the International Dance Council (CID), invites you to join them in celebrating INTERNATIONAL PEACE DAY 2024 under the theme “Dance and Peace in Sharing.” The objective is to create an international and intergenerational dynamic of dances for peace, with dance groups associated with UNESCO-associated NGOs around the world committing to participate in the International Day of Peace at the local, national, regional, and international levels.
TO PARTICIPATE: Submit a photo, a snapshot of a dance moment , a 2-minute teaser of choreography or a flash mob HERE. A film will be shared on social networks as well as a photo exhibition and a videoconference. / You can submit videos of yourself dancing, with puppets, or both together!

Culture and Peace

Culture is an intrinsic component of peace. UNESCO must play a decisive role and uphold its motto: “Wars arise in the minds of men and women; it is in the minds of men and women that we must build the defenses of peace.” Currently, it is important to counter the culture of war which threatens life on Earth. Modern means of communication must and can help.

It is important to encourage dialogue to better understand each other, to better understand the history of nations, peoples, and traditions. It is possible and necessary to bring together all women and men broadly so that the 17 Sustainable Development Goals are achieved by 2030. This includes developing a wide diversity of common projects, especially with young people, based on the eight areas of action of the culture of peace.

International days offer opportunities, notably the International Day of Peace on September 21.

The “Sharing Dance and Peace” project fits into this framework, along with three other projects already carried out or supported by several dozen NGOs: Puppets for Peace, Drones and Robots for Peace, and Choirs for Peace. Dancing for peace in the world on September 21, 2024, can be a great moment of understanding and human cohesion.

As peace is in the DNA of UNESCO and intercultural dialogue is at the heart of its mandate, we invite you to join us.
