The book “Teatro de Bonecos Popular Potiguar”, by André Carrico, a professor and researcher at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, UFRN, has just been released in Brazil by publisher Escribas. It is the result of eight years’ research that maps and analyzes the tradition and innovation of this genre among the Brasil’s Northeastern puppeteer. The work presents a panorama of the popular puppet in the state, emphasizing its relationship with Brazilian culture in the production of know-how, highlighting its origins, dramaturgy, characters, modes of production and social aspects, as well as analyzing the work of eleven puppeteers. The publication plays a significant role in promoting and valuing the art of popular puppetry among researchers and puppeteers, especially those interested in the genre.
