Presentation

PIF is the oldest and largest international puppet theater festival in Croatia. In its name, it kept the Esperanto name Pupteatra Internacia Festivalo in memory of the founders – Student Esperanto Club (SEK).

Back in 1968, the unique language of Esperanto began to spread through culture, so, along with theater and film festivals, a puppet festival was born. During the seven days of the festival every year, around twenty professional and amateur puppet theaters and troupes walk through PIF and Zagreb, performing shows for children and adults.

The prizes are awarded by two juries – an international expert jury and a children’s jury. PIF participants can be awarded with the main prize of the festival “Milan Čečuk” for the best play as a whole, the “Tibor Sekelj” prize for the play with the most humane message, prizes for individual achievements and the prize of the children’s jury.

The festival does not only consist of performances. Exhibitions, round tables and discussions, seminars, puppetry workshops, publishing activities, street programs and various other events present and promote Croatian and international puppetry.
