Webinar No. 8

Learning STEM curriculum through puppetry

With Wendy Passmore-Godfrey

Date: Monday 5th May 2025

Time: 15:00 CEST

Language: English

Wendy has been a Learning through the Arts facilitator since the approach was first introduced to Canadian schools in the mid-1990s. Her practice is influenced by educators such as Howard Gardner, Sir Ken Robinson, Elliot Eisner, and the Reggio Children approach, as well as insights gained from collaborating with hundreds of teachers.

This method integrates the arts into education, emphasizing process over product and using the arts to access concepts and make meaning. It fosters essential life skills, including discipline, cooperation, creativity, and self-esteem.

Wendy will share her favorite puppet projects, demonstrating how they bridge multiple disciplines by expanding STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) into STEAM through the arts. For example, ‘compostable puppets’ connect to themes such as environmental sustainability, material identification, storytelling, construction, cultural funeral practices, as well as art, drama, and language arts. There will practical instructions, lots of visuals and even, time permitting, a quick hands on activity.
