Brief history
UNIMA Spain is a federation divided into several autonomous associations. A Management Committee is charged with the daily activities of UNIMA. The working committees are the components responsible for specific fields. All members are represented on the Federal Committee by delegates, democratically elected speakers from their own federal association. The associations are UNIMA Castilla La Mancha; UNIMA Aragón; UNIMA Asturies; UNIMA Cataluña, UNIMA Castilla-León; UNIMA Euskal Herria; UNIMA Galicia; UNIMA Madrid; UNIMA Murcia and UNIMA Valencia.
Miguel Arreche, member of UNIMA Spain, was Secretary General of international UNIMA from 2000 to 2008.
Important projects and achievements
UNIMA Federación España’s objectives (UFE) are the training of puppeteers and the promotion of puppetry art. Annually, UFE organizes a Summer School open to puppeteers or artists who want to improve their knowledge of puppetry and the puppetry world. UFE gives to its members training scholarships to facilitate their participation in courses. UFE publishes an annual magazine, Fantoche. In 2006, the UNIMA Council was organized in Tolosa and in 2016 the UNIMA World Congress and Festival will take place in this city, in the frame of the European Capital of Culture 2016. In collaboration with the University of the Basque Country, it is working on the Spanish translation of the World Encyclopedia of Puppetry Art (WEPA).
