Ukrainian puppet Theatre in times of war

“Live a normal life in non-normal conditions”. This is a quote from the play “The Nuclear Mermaid”, created during the full-scale russian invasion of Ukraine by the Lviv Academic Regional Puppet Theatre (a play about waiting for a nuclear attack). Ukrainian puppeteers put the idea of living a normal life in non-normal conditions into practice every day: they create premieres, perform plays, organise festivals, workshops and conferences. Even without electricity, heating, or financial support, they stubbornly and tirelessly continue to work to create, do not give up.

Mykhailo Urytskyi (director and educator, Kyiv), Sofiia Rosa-Lavrentii (theatre scholar, lecturer, Lviv), Olga Dorofieieva (theatre scholar, cultural manager, Kharkiv), and Daria Ivanova- Hololobova (president of UNIMA-UKRAINE) will speak about how Ukrainian puppeteers the fourth year of full-scale war “live a normal life in non-normal conditions”.
