Puppet Saturday 12 – Scenography of Ukrainian Contemporary Puppet Theatre
Date: 22nd November 2025
Time: 14:00 CET
Registration for the digital panel is now open.
The high professional school of puppet theatre in Ukraine has existed since 1966 and has today 4 high education institutions for the professional training of puppeteers (Kharkiv, Kyiv, Lviv) and 2 colleges (Dnipro, Odesa).
Only since 2011, training as a puppet theatre scenographer has been available at the Department of Puppet Theatre Art at the Kyiv National I. K. Karpenko-Karyi University of Theatre, Cinema and Television. Therefore, this is still a very rare profession and artists are in short supply.
Scenography is an important part of the creative, artistic and production process in Ukrainian puppetry.
Puppeteers Mariia Pohrebniak, Mariia Chornoshkur and Hlib Tiupin will share the secrets of their profession and analyse current trends. The conversation will focus on the topics: kitsch as aesthetics, texture as a direction of work, and the traditions of pure puppetry in search of something new.
Moderator of the lecture – Daria Ivanova-Hololobova.
The workshop/lecture will last 90 minutes and will be translated live from Ukrainian to English.
PS: If you are unable to join us on the 22nd, all registered participants will receive a recording of the session. The link will remain active for two weeks.
