HOW DO WE INVEST YOUR MONEY?
Organizing an UNIMA congress is a huge, demanding and costly undertaking that requires a lot of time (several years, in fact), coordination and hard work. It now involves preparing for a hybrid congress (with simultaneous translation, remote/virtual participation, a voting system that must work efficiently…), as well as organising a festival, an hybrid symposium, and often workshops, with additional attractions such as local tourist activities, dinners and special events, like exhibitions or opening and closing ceremonies. From booking venues and negotiating with hotels, to managing registrations and logistics, arranging daily local transportation and providing lunches and refreshments during the congress period, every detail is carefully thought through and executed as seamlessly as possible. The expectations of UNIMA members are high! And the host national centre must deliver!
The registration fees, which are carefully considered by each hosting national centre, and naturally based upon local costs, represent only part of the overall costs associated with organising these major events. For the 2025 congress in Chuncheon, like previous and future congresses, it would not be possible for an UNIMA national centre to host such a large event without partnership from fellow national centre members. And this congress, like all our congresses in the past, would not be possible without Korean partners and sponsorship. No national centre on its own could attempt to organize an international event of this size and importance.
We sincerely thank UNIMA Korea for their excellent management and efforts in making the 2025 UNIMA Congress and associated events possible. And we sincerely thank UNIMA Korea for honouring their commitment that was shared with us all during the UNIMA 2021 Congress of hosting the entire Executive Committee as well as providing full coverage (flight included) of ten councillors from Africa, Latin America and Asia in order to ensure increased representation of international councillors and their physical presence at the Chuncheon congress 23 May to 1 June 2025.
Note: The government grants indicated in the chart above are exclusively for the Congress and symposium. The festival and exhibition are separately planned and managed by the Chuncheon Puppet Festival.
The total registration fee indicated in the chart is calculated based on 270 attendees (expected 300 Congress participants – 30 supported by UNIMA Korea = 270) x 700 Euros (registration fee for Group 2). The actual total registration fee is expected to be lower as early bird discounts and online registration fees were not considered for calculation convenience.
