Maurizio Gioco is a masterful puppeteer and performer. An innovator who is deeply versed in Italian traditional puppetry, he specializes in the burattino or glove puppet. Gioco is also an educator and puppet therapist. He has worked extensively with children with autism spectrum disorder in a variety of settings, specializing in techniques for those who don’t have language. He has pioneered workshops for fathers and art teaches community based-courses for retired people. Gioco has also collaborated and consulted on PhD theses, on topics such as the results of rehabilitative speech therapy practices using puppets.
