Felice Amato is an Assistant Professor of Art Education at Boston University. She holds a PhD in Art, an MFA in Ceramics, and an MA in Curriculum and Instruction. Previous to completing her PhD, she spent twenty years teaching in the public schools. Amato has a range of interests and has published widely on puppetry and pedagogy. In 2021-22, she held a year-long conference on the theme of women and masks. Amato has participated in residencies and received awards for her creative work. As an educator, Amato has created innovative courses such as “Thinking Through Puppets” and a course for pre-service teachers, called “Art, Access, and Inclusion.” In it, participants use puppets to explore how to make art lessons accessible to more students, understanding of how various disabilities, as well as a child’s English language learner status, history of trauma, and socio-economic status may affect students’ access to the curriculum.
